9.2 Carrigane - Holy Well - Knockaniska West - Barronafaddock - Mocollop Loop

Map:Path Colour :   on this map:
Walk Type: (road)  (countryside / off-road)
Time:4 hrs
Distance:15 km

This is a longer and more interesting walk. Start at Carrigane and (as indicated in 9.1), upon reaching the tarmac road, turn left past a forest on the right and then turn right into a field of rushes and heather and continue due east to the trig point at Barranafaddock.

From this trig point there is a magnificent view of Araglin, the Galtees, the Knockmealdowns, the Comeraghs, the Nagles, and the Blackwater Valley; an ideal spot to stop and take photographs. Continue in a south easterly direction, across the moorland to the forest, which is visible approximately 500m distant, turn left onto the forest track and continue until you meet a tarmac road.

Turn right along this road until you arrive at a ‘T’ junction, turn right and follow this lovely winding road into Mocollop Glen. The length of the Glen is 0.6km.

It is beautifully forested and the road parallels a stream with small tinkling waterfalls and pools. At the end of the glen, (at the parking area for visitors to Mocollop Glen) continue your journey to the main road, turn right for 0.6km until you reach Carrigane and your car.
