Approach Ballyduff from the Fermoy direction on the R666 and at the signpost indicating Araglin 5 miles (8 km) and Ballyduff 2.5 miles (4km), turn left for 100 metres and park. Take the road to the left and after a short distance fork right, the road rises gradually through a secluded wooded glen for approximately 2.4 km at the end of which is a low lying glen and the site of St. Michael’s Well.
This is a holy well known colloquially as Tobar na Hulla. Stories have it that this glen, known locally as the Bloody Glen, was a place for faction fighting.
The Well is said to have curative powers for those with eye ailments.
Return back up the road for 300m and take the first turn left into a narrow lane. Turn left at the farm and follow a lovely meandering lane for approximately 2km before entering a forest at the end of which one exits into cut wood and moorland.
At Knockaniska West, one has a view back across the Blackwater Valley to the Nagle mountains, Kilworth, Fermoy and all the surrounding fields and paddocks.
Continue for another 3km until you meet a tarmac road. ( For those who wish to have a longer walk, turn left - see 9.2) turn right and follow the road back to the car along which there are magnificent views of the Blackwater Valley and River, Mocollop graveyard and Mocollop Castle.
