Approaching Glenville from the East, turn left across Keam Bridge and park at the Angler's Rest pub. Return towards Keam Bridge but before the bridge, turn left into a narrow pathway which crosses the feeder stream to the Bride River by a small concrete footbridge.
Follow the track which climbs up towards the village of Glenville (1km). At the 'T' junction turn right and take a sharp left along the Mallow road. Keep left at the entrance to Doonpeter burial ground, the site of a Holy Well. Continue on the road and at the first cross-roads, Roche's Cross, continue straight ahead for a further 1.5km, to a bridge over the River Coom.
Immediately on the right after crossing the bridge, you will see the beginning of the Famine Road which follows the north bank of the river. Do not enter the field but continue uphill to the first cross-roads.
Turn right and walk the meandering road under Badgers Hill for 1.5km to a 'T' junction. Turn right and you arrive at a signpost for Ballyhooly (9km) and a Mass Rock.
Turn left along this road and opposite the Mass Rock, enter the Famine Road which is waymarked at this point.
The Mass Rock, lies 100m from the road in a lovely wooded glen at the end of which is a footbridge over the River Bride. The Mass rock was used to celebrate mass in seclusion during penal times.
Walk down the glen, along the Famine road, for 1.5km. Cross the small bridge over the Chimneyfield River, a tributary of the Bride, until you arrive at a footbridge over the Bride River. Cross the footbridge and follow the yellow waymarked trail, up the gentle rise towards Doonpeter Holy Well.
At the top of the rise, there is a fine view of the upper Bride Valley, its glens, farms and forests, with the Nagle mountains as a backdrop. Pass along by the well and follow the waymarkers through the fields back to the road.
Return along the road to Glenville, turn right and then take an immediate left at the church, down the track to the footbridge at the Angler's Rest.
