Having visited the reservoir, as an alternative walk to 1.4, turn left at the 'T' junction and walk up a lovely wooded road. Take the first turn left and walk along this road to a point known as Carraig an Aifreann (Mass Rock), a grotto in which mass was celebrated during penal times.

Continue along this road and keep right at the next fork until you arrive at the yellow waymarker; that is one of the waymarkers for the Avondhu Way which we refer to on many of the walks in this book.

At the waymarker, turn right along the forestry road with views over the Blackwater Valley. Turn left at the next waymarker from where you can see across the valley towards the Cross of Corrin and Fermoy Golf Club. Follow the waymarker to Glenabo car park.
