As outlined in 13.4, park at the Glengarra Wood carpark, walk up the road along the bank of the river, past the hostel, across the bridge and up the forest road to the fence separating Glengarra from the mountain ranges.
Cross the fence, veer left, cross the stream and follow the pathway that climbs up gradually in a northerly direction to meet the Black Road (the regular road when climbing Galtymore and Galtybeg). When you reach the Black Road, continue northwards towards Galtybeg, with Galtymore on its left. Turn right at the end of the Black Road and follow the pathway over the hills and ridges until you reach O'Loughlan's Castle, a cairn of rocks overlooking Muskry Lake.
Turn south down the ridge until you reach the fence near the upper end of Glengarra Wood. Cross the fence and return to your car.
If you wish a slight variation of this walk is to move in an easterly direction down the side of the hill from O'Loughlan's Castle. On the way you may pass the wing of an aeroplane which crashed in the Galtees some years ago. Walk down into this valley and sweep right to the fence.
You will have a choice of little pathways in Glengarra Wood, many waymarked, back to your car.
