Take the second turn after Kilbeheny, as indicated in walks 13.1 and 13.2, but this time continue past the turn off to the Galty Woods, past the waterworks and turn left at the next fork.
Drive along parallel to the Behanagh River until you meet a fork before a bridge. Park your car at the fork. Take the right fork, keeping the river to your left hand side.
This is a nice walk alongside the river, which tumbles down over rocks and little waterfalls, from the Blackrock and Pigeonrock Rivers. After 1.5km where the two rivers meet at a little bridge, cross the bridge, enter through a gate. On your left is the Pigeonrock River Glen and on your right the Blackrock River or the Blackrock Glen.
The most interesting feature here is the beautiful dry stone wall along the side of Knockateriff Mountain, extending as far as a little house approximately 1km uphill, overlooking the Blackrock River.
This is a magnificently structured wall and across the valley you will see a circular dry stone sheep pen with an unusual pattern of connecting walls up the side of the mountain.
Walk up the Pigeonrock Glen, keeping to the right hand side of the river. This is a beautiful but difficult rising walk for approximately 2km along the side of Knockaterriff mountain. At the top of the Glen continue around the north face of Knockaterriff Beg and along a wasteland of turf cuttings. These turf bogs were the source of fuel for Mitchelstown Creameries during the Second World War.
The turf was transported to the creamery by horse drawn sledges, down Blackrock Glen. Make your way across the turf cuttings, gradually turning towards the south, and you will meet the little road or path down which the turf cuttings were drawn.
Take the path down into the valley to a lovely stone walled field at the end of the grassy valley. This is very beautiful, looking north towards the Galtees, and south towards the hills, woods and forests.
Follow the path down through the valley, past the beautiful stone wall which is magnificently preserved. Cross the bridge and return to your car, making sure that you close the gates.
This walk is quite difficult and you will need good clothing, good boots and careful planning.
